One thing that Rebekkah and Michael share is a love of word play. This song began as a string of text messages; the first verse is a direct quote of part of that conversation:
Michael: Truth.
Rebekkah: Dare?
Michael: Truth, and ask with care.
Rebekkah: Do you dare?
Rebekkah re-read these lines and immediately heard the beginnings of a song, which she stayed up that night to write, finishing about 1:30 in the morning.
lyrics
Last night as we said goodbye, we played a little game,
You said a word, I answered, and you tossed it back again.
You said truth, I asked dare?
You said truth, and ask with care.
Alright, the truth, then: do you dare?
Then tonight under the raindrops as we listened to the sound,
While lightning laced the sky and thunder rolled around,
I said truth, you asked dare?
I said truth, and ask with care.
And you said truth --
(Chorus)
Do you dare be the fool who rushes in
where angels fear to tread?
Will you let your old heart lead the way
And maybe lose your head?
Will you leave those tattered dreams behind,
Or fall in love instead?
Do you dare?
Do you dare?
(Bridge)
But I’m bad at this, been here before, do you really want this too?
Been dragged from heart to heart, it breaks each time, yet here I am with you.
So tonight as we walked hand in hand, we played a little game,
You said the words. I answered, and you softly said my name,
I said truth, you asked dare,
I said truth, and ask with care,
Alright the truth --
(Chorus)
Do we dare be the fools who rush right in
Where angels fear to tread?
Can we let our old hearts lead the way,
And maybe lose our heads?
Can we keep those tattered dreams alive,
And fall in love again?
Do we dare?
Do we dare?
Well, I do.
